Process

My primary goal in my design in this project was the give viewers the essential context for them to get the most out of their visit to the exhibit. Accompanied by UMMA’s audio narration of the works, users were able to select a number and listen to additional context provided by the museum on these works.

Design-wise, I knew I wanted to emphasize Titus Kaphar’s Flay as the impetus for the exhibit’s curation at UMMA.

Early iterations

As my design progressed, I moved from a map with descriptions directly on the map to one with numbers corresponding with the audio narration to eliminate unnecessary repetition and encourage visitors to utilize the resources provided by the museum.

I also introduced a color palette borrowed from Flay, a medium purple and red that echo the background of space behind the subject, James Madison.
